“Parking garages are big and not especially loved”, says Terence Riley of K/R (Keenen/Riley) Architects. Challenged to create a parking garage facade, the panelist made up of architects, designers and artists collaborated with play in mind.

Inspired by the Exquisite Corpse - in this case, each collaborator adds a section to create Museum Garage’s facade design. During the discussion of their process, Nicolas Buffe shares, “My idea was to follow Terry’s invitation to play” and his desire to “invite people to feel joy & entertainment.” May I add it’s been a joy to see this come together since last December. Leaving the Prada opening party, I was riding down NE 41st Street one night during Art Basel ‘17, heading west, I look up to see the black and white creation. I would soon learn it was a Nicolas Buffe design. One of the facade designs for Museum Garage. Buffe is a French artist who resides in Tokyo. His work is comprised of many different references: elephants, Polifilo & Polia and unicorns. You can see his facade at the entrance of the garage.

When you enter the Miami Design District (MDD) you see how “car culture” turns into “street life”. MDD is a place where people can walk, explore, play and of course shop. If you need a caption for your next upload of Museum Garage to social here’s a simple comment from Clavel Arquitectos “Attraction. Attention. Disruption”.
