I got a really big team and my shooter, LSU Graduate, Warren @thesuthrngent (IG) sent me some amazing shots of him in New Orleans this weekend (Feb 5-9). He's a well traveled Louisiana native who is also my friend/big brother. Wikipedia says, Mardi Gras is "French [for] 'fat Tuesday,’ alluding to the last day of feasting before the fast and penitence of Lent." Beinvielle started Mardi Gras in New Orleans in 1718 (yes maybe I know this because I took a Louisiana History course in undergraduate at LSU).
At any rate, Mardi Gras is about indulging before Lent. I know some of you have never been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras so if it's on your bucket list, here are 4 things to indulge in:
- French, African & Spanish Cultures - take in the quarters, enjoy the old streets, the architecture and influences of all these cultures and how they what they contribute to New Orleans
- Café du Monde - enjoy fresh coffee with warm fluffy beignets laced in powdered sugar
- New Orleans Original Daiquiris (21+) - this frozen beverage is great with additional shots but remember, if it is not in styrofoam cup...it's not a daiquiri
- Parkway Poboys - shrimp poor boy pair with Zapp's chips or a root beer
- *Bonus* Bourbon Street - free clubs, hand grenade drink, police on horses & lots of balcony boob action
Let me know what you do to celebrate & comment below.
