Let me call an #Uber - @Uber_Miami

If you never used Uber, use code 'Chloee33' for $ towards your first ride.

My first Uber ride was in New York 2014. I decided to do New York alone and visit my friend Savoy. Little did I know, I hadn't prepared myself for commuting from JFK Airport to his job. He told me about a few apps but Uber stood out to me because I heard DJ Steph Floss talk about it on instagram. So I used his promo code.

After figuring the app out and using his promo code, I was on my way to my Airbnb by way of an Uber driver. The Uber X was a Black Lincoln Town car. After the 42 minute ride from JFK, I would tip my driver $10, the discount code would be applied & the balance to my card on file.

I read one morning that Uber is valued at $62 billion...I don't know what that means in terms of venture capital, etc. but I just wanted to share that. Uber partnered with so many brands this year in Miami alone. Below, check out how Uber is being used in Miami:

  • Uber Pool - "uberPOOL matches you with another rider heading in the same direction. It adds only a few minutes, and you both save big. Trips are up to 50% less than uberX. From home to work to play, uberPOOL gets you there for way, way less."- Uber
  • Uber Boat - during Art Basel, you could ride a yacht instead of sitting in Basel traffic
  • Uber Scoop - the time where Uber linked with Lulu's Nitrogen Ice Cream and delivered ice cream if you used the promo code
  • Uber Swim Week - the moment when you put the code in, request a ride and a bag of Allure goodies would be delivered to you
  • Uber Luxe - influencer @YesJulz introduced this to her snapchat followers. Luxe was a new way to ride in luxury to your destination. Requesting an Uber Luxe in Miami and you might end up in a BMW 7 Series
  • Uber BMW - for this partnership, you enter the code 7SERIESMIA to get a free ride in the 7 Series BMW
  • Uber Pitch - during #MiamiTechWeek you could request an Uber Pitch with an investor where you would spend 15 min in an Uber pitching your start up business. Shouts out to Brandon Timinsky (pitch participant), GasNinjas the on demand gas pumping service in Miami. He was recently at Start Up Grind powered by Google for Entrepreneurs in Miami at we work Lincoln Road.

Despite the impact Uber has in Miami, there are things that are fighting against it. The New Tropic highlights the information below in a recent article

Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime and Vice Chairman Esteban L. Bovo, Jr., both have proposals. Monestime, who drove a cab for 5 years while in college, wants Uber and Lyft drivers to obtain chauffeur’s registration, wheelchair and stretcher transport training, and American Red Cross Standard First Aid training, just as taxi drivers do, according to the South Florida Business Journal. This is a much less prohibitive version of his original proposal, in which he also mandated insurance for 24-hours for every driver.
